{Event Recap} Black Girls Do: Co-Work

On Wednesday, March 22nd, Black Girls Do hosted their second event for 2017 -- Black Girls Do: Co-Work! The event was held at the city chic WeWork Chinatown. The evening began with a mix and mingle, where guests were able to tour the modern workspace and work on projects.

Leah J. welcomed guests and provided information on Black Girls Do, its mission, and the purpose of the co-working event.

Featured guest speaker, Shertora of Prissy Sweet Cakes, opened the floor with a discussion of her journey to entrepreneurship and the power of social media. Each event sponsor also shared their entrepreneurial journey, why they went into entrepreneurship, benefits of collaborating with other entrepreneurs, how to cultivate new relationships, and the next steps for their businesses.

Attendees were then divided into groups for the speed networking portion of the event. Entrepreneurs were asked to partner with an entrepreneur they didn't know. Each pair had 15 minutes to get to know their partner better in this speed networking portion of the event. Pairs were also asked to explore ways they can collaborate on a future project.

The Think Tank section was provided for attendees who were interested in starting a business, but haven't. Participants were given 15 minutes to ask each other business development questions from the jar. Samples questions were, "What product or service to you want to offer?" and "How will you fund your business?"

Attendees also received resource guides from the Small Business Administration, WeWork pen, notepad, folder, personalized name tags, custom Black Girls Do Business Directory, magnets and more!

Latin wine shop Grand Cata DC provided signature tastings to accompany the hor d'oueveres, and a dessert bar from Prissy Sweet Cakes.

Guests also had the opportunity to open business bank accounts with Industrial Bank. guests continued to enjoy the evening and network.
